As every year for the last 6 years, InterNations has published its Expat Insider survey (over 20,000 respondents). If Luxembourg ranks 12th out of 64 countries, it ranks 1st in terms of economic and job security.

A ranking higher than in the previous study

In 2018, Luxembourg moved from 15th to 12th place in the ranking of the best countries for expatriates thanks to its strong economy and the many job offers proposed in the Grand Duchy. Indeed, this small country is constantly looking for workforce, which reassures expatriates. In addition, Luxembourg's wages are among the highest in Europe. As an example, 79% of respondents say that their income is higher when in the country of origin and for 44% it would be much higher. Something that make you want to settle there!

In addition: the most popular countries for expatriates are Taiwan, Vietnam, Portugal, Mexico, Spain, Singapore, Bahrain, Ecuador, Malaysia and the Czech Republic.

Luxembourg: a country with also negative points

If it presents itself as a country economically interesting, the Grand Duchy presents also negative sides. And notably, the integration for which it ranks 32nd: it places 46th for the ease of finding local friends and 44% of respondents indicate that it is difficult to make friends.

In terms of the cost of living, Luxembourg tumbles to the 59th place out of 64. And for good reason: 69% of expatriates are worried about the high cost of living before moving to the country.

And more than 3 out of 5 respondents assure this trend saying that the cost of living is negative.
